Thinking of doing an engagement shoot near Los Angeles but without the Los Angeles crowd? Well we listed some of our favorite outdoor places near Los Angeles that are pretty hidden away from the normal touristy spots and are only about 2 hours away! So check out some of these great locations for your engagement shoot!

1. Vasquez Rocks

Ever seen Westworld? Well fun fact they actual shot a few scenes here! There’s actually a few movies and shows that have filmed here, yet it’s still pretty secluded! This place isn’t too far away from Los Angeles, it’s about an hour away, but it’s just far enough to feel like you were transported into some western movie. The main part about Vasquez Rocks is the huge rocks! It’s a great place to explore with your babe and have some fun while climbing up some huge rocks all while getting your pictures taken!

2. Wrightwood

Not too many people have heard of or even knows where Wrightwood is, but they definitely should! It’s a little further away about 2 hours but it’s worth the drive. We love this place for both summer shoots and winter shoots. The further you drive up, you can start to get a beautiful view of the mountains and mother nature might even be feeling generous and you can end up some shots like this!

3. Malibu Creek State Park

If your ideal engagement shoot involves mountain views, large open spaces, and a green meadow. Then look no further, Malibu Creek State Park is your place. Located about an hour from Los Angeles, you’ll have a lot of fun running around in the fields here and get some beautiful shots with some magical views. Not to mention an epic sunset to finish it all off.

4. Carbon Canyon- Redwood Grove Trail

Want some redwood trees in your engagement shoot, then you got em! The best part is you don’t have to drive to Northern California either. Yup, just located about an hour away from Los Angeles you can have some awesome redwood trees in your engagement shoot. This is super nice too if your not up for a crazy hike or anything. You and your love can just stroll through the trail.

5. Big Bear Lake

A lot of people overlook this option mainly because people think it’s too far or too crowded. They’re not completely wrong, since Big Bear is known to be a vacation destination for winter and summer, it’s better to go during the week day. For the most part there are actually a lot of secluded places you can have your pictures done at, you just might need to do a little hiking to get there. Plus if you two are up for it, the best times to shoot are sunrise or sunset all while overlooking Big Bear Lake.

6. Joshua Tree

Joshua Tree is everything it seems and so much more. If you have never been, I definitely recommend coming here for your engagement shoot. It’s also a great camping spot if you decide to make a weekend out of it. Plus if you stay after sunset, you’ll get to see pitch black skies filled with stars, something you definitely can’t get in Los Angeles.

7. Los Angeles National Forest

And last but certainly not least, Los Angeles National Forest. LA forest is located about an hour away from the city. The forest is pretty huge so you will definitely find a great spot with some amazing views. If you have more time to spend here, we highly recommend exploring and even spending the day here! Our favorite part about the Los Angeles National forest is the beautiful mountains you get as your background. The best time to come would be either sunrise of sunset so you can get the sun just peaking right over the mountains.

Of course there are so many more beautiful places to take your engagement photos! These just happen to be some of our favorites! If you have any questions about any of these locations or about planning an enagement session, send us an email so we can help you out! And don’t forget to check out more of work for some extra inspiration.
